NEW Suzie Viemeister Emerging Artist

Image

The Bower Center for the Arts is pleased to introduce Dawn Richerson as the second recipient of the program. Dawn is an artist who is inspired by the soul of place and the natural world. On long walks in the woods, she often documents what she sees and experiences with photography and writing. Later, she takes these field notes and explores her subject matter further, primarily through painting.

Her paintings are both an interpretation of and an invitation to the story of life unfolding around us and within us. During her residency, she hopes to explore the natural beauty of Virginia through painting and photography. Dawn has always wanted to live in a rural area and has recently relocated to Bedford County.

"It is the experience of life that is at the heart of who I am and what I do," she says. "I think it is the desire to reconnect with life and all that is alive in me that is at the core of all my expression. I hope my paintings connect those who encounter them with that sense of wonder—and even mystery."

Join us for 2nd Friday at Bower Center for the Arts on April 8 from 5 – 7 PM to meet Dawn and participate in our opening reception of our new exhibits, Barry Koplen: Men at Work; Robert Hunter: Close Encounter at SML; and Itsy-Bitsy Art. For more information regarding the Suzie Viemeister Emerging Artist program, visit the website at www.bowercenter.org. Working artist studios and exhibitions are free and open to the public Tuesday-Saturday, 11am-3pm.

Concert

Virginia Hollow

April 2, 2022 6-8:30pm

Virginia Hollow is a band and a sound born from the hills, valleys and mountains of Appalachia. Their performances and music take you on a journey fraught with raw emotions and stories of love, trust, betrayal, and longing. When all is said and done, the haunting melodies of Carrie Hinkley's soulful voice are hard to shake off and instead keep returning and playing in one's mind, like an untamed mantra of beauty and tragedy. This is a band whose time has come to be reckoned with.
