Bower Concert Series Spotlight:
Paddy Dougherty

Paddy Dougherty, Virginia based singer-songwriter, returns to the Bower Center stage with her bandmates of thirty years to present one of three farewell concerts. With a mix of emotions and a blend of genres “Movin’ On” will commemorate the quartet’s many years of soulful blues, jazzy ballads, and commanding originals.

Paddy joined Programs Director, Lauren, in this week's Behind the Bower Podcast.  In it, Paddy talks about her path as a musical artist, what inspires her, and the challenges artists encouter in the music industry in the 21st century.

Hansel and Gretel

with Opera on the James

Free Family Performance and Art Activity

 

The James Tyler Young Artist Program, through Opera on the James, presents their traveling production of Hansel and Gretel. The 40-minute performance begins at 12:00pm, with family-friendly art activities and refreshments to follow. Appropriate for all ages. 

ART on TAP: Needle Felting

March 2, 2:00-4:00pm

Dive into the art of needle felting as instructor Belle Thomas guides you in creating your own adorable, hand-crafted felted egg. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just looking for a fun afternoon, this hands-on workshop is perfect for everyone. 

Bower After Hours

Line Dancing the Night Away

April 11, 6:00-8:00pm

 

A high enery Line Dance night featuring the incredible Line Dancing with Angela! Whether you are a seasoned pro or a total beginner, Angela will have you stepping, spinning, and stomping to the beat in no time. A 21+ Event.

 

Exhibit News

The 11th Annual Curry/Bower exhibit is now open.  This year's exhibit is the largest yet, featuring 165 pieces by 59 artists in 4 states in the adult divison, plus an additional 26 works by 9 artists in the youth division.  

 

The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 11-3.  The works of the 11th Annual Curry/Bower Exhibit and its Youth Division are are also available for viewing on our website. 

 

The awards reception is scheduled for Friday, March 14 from 5:00-7:00pm. It is free and open to the public.
