We are excited to have two former Best in Show Winners return to the Bower Center for their well deserved Solo Exhibits. Donald Sunshine and Sarah Bolduc, the 2020 and 2021 National Juried Best in Show recipients respectively, will have their exhibits on display from August 30 - November 12, 2022.
Donald Sunshine: A Retrospective
I guess at age 89 it’s okay to do a retrospective. Thus, as I consider my art over these many years, indeed all of my life, I realize that this has been, for me, a wonderful opportunity of discovery. Discovery through search and experiment to which the work, I believe attests.
Accordingly, I would urge you to view this exhibit with the foregoing intention in mind. Further the exhibit is organized based on three directions for my work – impressionist watercolors, art as commentary, and non-objective works.
Sarah Bolduc: An Attraction For Abstraction
“Creativity” is my thing and art is my passion. I love creating art: exploring new color palettes and working in a vast variety of mediums. Favored mediums include oils, acrylics, watercolors and inks. Papers and fibers, both commercial and my hand dyed, intrigue me and are heavily used adding diverse patterns, texture and interest.
I work intuitively utilizing my mediums alone and together. I prefer to create abstractly with suggestions of realism; striving to attract the viewer; embracing both my story and that which the viewer perceives. The stories and visualizations within my work have meaning, narrative and draw a response. Use of color, line, shape , and texture further formulates design.
My subject matter is derived from life experiences, thoughts, interactions and observations. I work daily embracing the journey my processes take me on! I am a creative expressionist!
