In honor of Black History Month, Bower Center for the Arts celebrates two local African American visual artists. In this final week, we feature the work of Donald Parker, a native of Bedford where he was born, raised, and died in April 2013 at the age of 57. He graduated from Liberty High School and was an accomplished craftsman who loved working on cars, building and creating with his hands, and as evidenced by this watercolor, also a skilled artist. Fortunately, an admirer and collector of his artwork loaned this watercolor for display in the African American art exhibition at the Sedalia Center last June. As a result, Parker’s art practice was brought to the attention of Bower studio artist Veronica Jackson. Unfortunately, the title and date of this watercolor are unknown.
