This course is designed to introduce students to the magical world of watercolor!
We'll begin with an introduction to the basic tools needed, the care and keeping of paint brushes, and preparing the paper for paint.
The students will follow along after watching demonstrations of foundational watercolor techniques such as the flat wash, wet-in-wet, dry brush (wet on dry), lifting, spattering, spraying, masking, and texture techniques such as using salt, plastic wrap, embossing, and rubbing alcohol. Students will create small projects each week, using the techniques introduced.
Fridays, March 6 - 27 from 12:30pm - 1:30pm (4 sessions, 1 hour each)

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Peggy is a longtime homeschool parent and experienced art instructor who has taught creative classes to homeschool groups for many years. She brings both an educator’s understanding and a parent’s perspective to her teaching, creating a supportive, encouraging environment where children of different ages and abilities can explore art with confidence and curiosity.
Her own creative journey rekindled in 2012, when she turned to pen and ink drawing as a way to calm her mind and reconnect with creativity. This exploration led her to watercolor, where she fell in love with the fluid, almost magical nature of the medium. Over time, she returned to acrylic painting (which she studied in early college) and later discovered mosaics in 2018. Her work is expressive and whimsical, known for vibrant colors, bold lines, and a playful sense of discovery.
Peggy especially enjoys mosaics for their tactile and imaginative qualities—collecting and using tesserae such as jewelry pieces, old dishes, broken glass, and seashells to tell a visual story. She now works from her home studio, where she continues her own art practice, takes ongoing classes, and hosts a weekly Open Studio. Through all of her teaching, Peggy’s goal is to help children and adults experience the joy of creating, build skills at their own pace, and feel empowered through art—opening the door to those meaningful ah-ha moments that transform uncertainty into confidence in a warm, community-centered setting.
