Description
This annual exhibit is an all-media judged exhibit to honor Edna Curry and Dr. John Bower, Bower Center's founding benefactors.
Exhibit will take place February 18 - March 29th, 2025
Awards Reception will be held on March 14, 2025, 5 - 7 PM

The Youth Division entries are open to artists aged 13 - 17. All entries must be original works (no reproductions) and created by the artists within the past three years and not been in a previous judged Curry/Bower Exhibit at Bower Center. Youth may enter artwork that has been displayed in a previous BCPS Art Show. Electronic files for the online gallery are required. Follow the file specifications on the paper form. 2-D artwork must be secured in sturdy frames or gallery-wrap, and wired for hanging. Saw-tooth hangers or wired loops embedded in cardboard backing will be rejected. Please contact our offices for assistance with hanging your artwork.
Photographs should be mounted, no rippling of prints showing Max size: 2D 42” in either direction 3D Space for free-standing broad-based sculpture of varying heights is limited.
If you have questions, contact Bower Center to discuss your entry. Art requiring pedestals is limited to 15”-20” at the base and 3’ - 4’ in height. Note on the entry form if a pedestal is required. Bower Center reserves the right to deny entry any work deemed not suitable to display or too difficult to install.

Entry Pricing: $10 entry fee for up to 2 works of art and $20 entry fee for up to 4 works of art.
Judge Bio: Linda Atkinson
Linda Atkinson is a visual artist and native of Roanoke. She lived for 13 years in California, teaching sculpture and women's studies at the University of California/ Santa Cruz. Returning to Southwestern Virginia, she taught studio art as a visiting lecturer for Hollins University, Radford University and Roanoke College, where she was also gallery director and curator of the Olin Hall Galleries for 11 years. In addition to studio art, Linda taught art history for 21 years at Virginia Western Community College. In 2012, Linda completed the American Society of Appraisers Certificate Program at Purchase College, State University of New York, and is a fine art appraiser in addition to maintaining a working sculpture studio.
