Adult Clay Handbuilding with Thomas Kilian
Tuesday, August 27, 2024 (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
Want to experience clay in a different way other than on a potter’s wheel? This is the class for you. From slab and coiling work to pitch-potting and surface decoration, this class offers an intimate way to express yourself artistically and more instinctively. With some phase-by-phase instruction and demonstration, be freed to create something uniquely you! This is a very laid-back class and offers more artistic insight and reflection than other classes taught by Kilian. This class is for both beginners and the intermediate.
Tuesdays from August 27th to October 1st from 4pm - 6pm.
MATERIALS LIST: Students will be provided with a 25 lb bag of clay and a variety of glaze options.
INSTRUCTOR BIO: Kilian was awarded the "Heritage Artist" of IBXArts in 2010 and "Artist of the Year" by Scuppernong Gazette in 2009. His family was featured in the nationally noted NC magazine, “Our State.” Kilian specializes in early American heritage pottery (www.newnationpottery.com). A major difference in Kilian’s work has been based on authenticity. He develops his glazes and clays and has been unfettered by conventional training. Kilian started in clay at the tender age of eight and opened his ceramic studio in 2007 in the Inner Banks of North Carolina. His experience has yielded many accomplishments, such as creating the heritage pottery collection commissioned by North Carolina’s Cultural Resources for historic heritage sites, acceptance into Mino, Japan's International Ceramics Festival, and exhibiting his museum pieces in the exclusive Imperial Art Centre's HANDCRAFTED Exhibitions. He operates a fully outfitted studio in Chatham, VA.
