INSTRUCTOR BIO:

Carla Ann Fosbre’s heart belongs to Appalachia and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. She was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia and has lived in the nearby counties of Botetourt, Bedford and Franklin all her life! Her mother, aunts and uncles were all born in the Blue Ridge Mountains and passed along

their love of old-time mountain music to her. Carla loves to learn old time fiddle tunes and mountain ballads. Carla Ann’s ancestors came mostly from the British Isles, so you will hear a lot of Celtic influence in her music!

Carla Ann’s style of performing is unique. She plays mountain dulcimers and a bowed dulcimer which is perfect for old time and Celtic music! Mountain dulcimers are the oldest American made instruments except for the Native American instruments. What also makes Carla Ann’s style of performing unique is that she likes to tell a story about the music she is playing. She believes that music is a gift and it should always be shared with others! Carla Ann likes to keep the music she plays as authentic as possible so that these beautiful old tunes don’t die! She plays in the style of the great Jean Ritchie and Don Pedi.

“To play these old tunes is like a living history of old Appalachia” – Carla Ann
