Description

Clay handbuilding is an excellent introduction to clay as an art medium. In this class, we will examine the different types of clay, discuss suitability for each in different projects, and develop skills in the three primary processes for hand building. Students will complete handbuilt projects through one or a combination of methods, including pinching, coiling, or slab building. Students will receive guidance and individualized instruction to accomplish projects of their own design. This is a beginner to intermediate class. Emphasis will be on mastering basic handbuilding skills as well as learning the proper stages of clay to achieve a stable and balanced three-dimensional form. All materials are provided in this six week class, including individual instruction, a 25 lb. bag of clay, all tools, glazing, and kiln firings. Class size minimum of 4, limited to 8 participants to guarantee individual instruction.
