Felt Bird Pods with Dawn Edwards

Come and enjoy a fun day of wet-felting as you create a felt bird pod which is sure to be a hit with your feathered friends. The bird pod will be made of naturally water repellant Bergschaf wool. Small birds such as Wrens, Nuthatches, and Chickadees will use them for shelter and/or nesting. This is a great introduction to 3-D felting, employing the same techniques used in making hats, bags, slippers, etc. Watch as our flat felt pieces become three-dimensional. Bonus: We will begin the day by creating a felt flower which can be used as an embellishment for your bird pod, or you may wish to add a pin back to your flower and use it as your own fashion accessory

Skill Level for this Workshop: Suitable for all levels. Some standing involved. We will be rolling our felt which requires some physical exertion. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes.

Materials Provided by Instructor:

• Wool for the bird pod embellishing fibers
• Reusable pattern
• Soap
• Written instructions
• Use of instructor supplies
• Plus a felt flower kit (the flower can be used as an embellishment for your bird pod, or you may wish to add a pin back to your flower and use it as your own fashion accessory).  

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING

• 3 bath size towels
• A plastic container for water (a beach pail is ideal)
• A laundry sprinkler or Ballbrause sprinkler if you have one (I will have several to share if not)
• Bubble wrap: 2 ft. wide x 6 ft. length, small bubbles
• Sharp pointy scissors  A wooden spoon for shaping
• Pool noodle ((1/2 the size of a pool noodle is fine, so you and a friend could split one noodle). This is used for rolling your felt. 
• Optional: 
  • You may wish to purchase a set of plastic bed risers (which run about $10/set) to raise the height of your table to a more comfortable working height
  • Apron

INSTRUCTOR BIO

Dawn Edwards is a felt artist/tutor based in Plainwell, Michigan. She sells her work under the label ‘Felt So Right’ and teaches within the USA and internationally. Dawn’s felt art has appeared in exhibitions, magazines & books, including: Ellen Bakker’s book Worldwide Colours of Felt, several issues of the Australian 'FELT' Magazine, International Feltmakers Association ‘Felt Matters’ journal, HGA’s ‘Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot’ journal, Danish GRIMA journal, and Fiber Art Now. Dawn is co-coordinator of the 8,000 member FELT UNITED, with the goal of uniting feltmakers from all around the world  

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations made 1 week or more in advance of the class date will receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made within 3 - 6 days will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours to the class will not be refunded.

• Students will have the option to transfer registration to another class in place of receiving a refund.
• Special consideration will be given to cancellations due to health-related issues and family emergencies.
