10th Annual Curry/Bower Exhibition Call for Artists

Description
This annual exhibit is an all-media judged exhibit to honor Edna Curry and Dr. John Bower, Bower Center's primary benefactors.
Exhibit will take place February 13– March 30, 2024.

Eligibility:
Junior Division: Artists aged 13- 17 may participate in this exhibit and enter up to two original artworks. The presentation requirements are the same as the adult division. (See below). Electronic files for the online gallery are required. File specifications are in the yellow box in the center column.
Adult Division: The adult division is open to all artists aged 18 and over. All entries must be original works (no reproductions) and created by the artists within the past three years and not been in a previous juried or judged exhibit at Bower Center. Electronic files for the online gallery are required. Follow the file specifications in the yellow box in the center column. 2-D artwork must be secured in sturdy frames or gallery-wrap, and wired for hanging. Saw-tooth hangers or wired loops embedded in cardboard backing will be rejected.
Photographs should be mounted, no rippling of prints showing Max size: 2D 60” in either direction 3D Space for free-standing broad-based sculpture of varying heights is limited.
Contact Bower Center to discuss your entry. Art requiring pedestals is limited to 15”-20” at the base and 3’ - 4’ in height. Note on the entry form if a pedestal is required. Bower Center reserves the right to deny entry any work deemed not suitable to display or too difficult to install.
Entry Fee:
Adult Div : $30 entry fee for up to 3 works of art
Junior Div : $10 entry for up to 2 works of art
Judge Bio:
Gina Louthian-Stanley is a Roanoke, Virginia native. Louthian-Stanley has been creating for as long as she remembers, having the good fortune to have been mentored and taught by some of the area's finest artists. While she has working with encaustic and cold wax artist since 2006, her most recent works are explorations in combining various mediums and techniques to create the 'atmospheric and textural' qualities, which are symbolic to her works.
She has been able to assemble bits and pieces of her lifelong inspiration to create her own artistic style. Louthian-Stanley's works represent the physical and emotional sensations, which carry the viewer into an intimate visual narrative. Louthian-Stanley pursued an interest in continuing her creative endeavors and earned her B.A. Degree from Hollins University and followed by a Master's Degree from Radford University. Her work experience has been teaching art at the high school level and leading workshops around the country. She has received many artistic honors and awards, has been featured in several publications, and has artworks in corporate and private collections locally, nationally, and internationally.
Her work can be seen at Market Gallery in Roanoke, VA., Matrix Gallery in Blacksburg, VA., 310 Art Gallery in Asheville, NC, Copper fox Gallery, Nashville, TN. and at her home studio in Roanoke, VA.
