If you’ve ever wanted to throw thinner pots or make taller, larger vessels, this class is for you. Kilian will share tips and tricks learned through years of experience. Advanced techniques only seasoned potters know will be revealed throughout this class. This is not a class for beginners.

Mondays from August 26th to September 30th
5-7pm

MATERIALS LIST: Students will be provided with a 25 lb bag of brown, manganese-speckled stoneware clay (cones 5-6) and a variety of glaze options.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: Kilian was awarded the "Heritage Artist" of IBXArts in 2010 and "Artist of the Year" by Scuppernong Gazette in 2009. His family was featured in the nationally noted NC magazine, “Our State.” Kilian specializes in early American heritage pottery and will be touring with the Heart of VA Artisans for VA250 in 2024-2026 (www.newnationpottery.com). A major difference in Kilian’s work has been based on authenticity. He develops his glazes and clays and has been unfettered by conventional training. Kilian started in clay at the tender age of eight and opened his ceramic studio in 2007 in the Inner Banks of North Carolina. His experience has yielded many accomplishments, such as creating the heritage pottery collection commissioned by North Carolina’s Cultural Resources for historic heritage sites, acceptance into Mino, Japan's International Ceramics Festival, and exhibiting his museum pieces in the exclusive Imperial Art Centre's HANDCRAFTED Exhibitions. He operates a fully outfitted studio in Chatham, VA.
