Discover the art of capturing the human face with precision and expression in this engaging portrait drawing workshop! Over four 1.5-hour sessions, participants of all skill levels will learn the fundamentals of drawing portraits. Beginners will build confidence with step-by-step guidance, while advanced artists refine their techniques through detailed instruction.
Topics include:
- Proportions of the face and head
- Understanding light and shadow
- Techniques for achieving lifelike features
- Capturing the unique character of your subject
Each session will include live demonstrations, hands-on practice, and individualized feedback to help you bring your portraits to life. Whether you’re a first-time artist or a seasoned creator, this workshop offers something for everyone.
MATERIALS LIST:
Any dry medium. Charcoal, chalk pastels, graphite, or colored pencil.
White Charcoal for highlights.
Erasers. Kneaded, and rubber.
Toned paper 11” x14” or larger.
Blending stumps
Workable Fixative to stop your drawings from smudging.
INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Robert Keith IV is a seasoned artist and educator with over a decade of experience in fine arts. Robert has dedicated his career to helping students unlock their creative potential by mastering the fundamentals of drawing.
In the classroom, Robert is known for his patient and encouraging teaching style. He believes that every student has the potential to develop their artistic skills, regardless of their starting point. His classes are structured to build confidence and technical ability, with a strong emphasis on observational drawing, and the principles of perspective.
Robert O. Keith IV is a native Coloradan, now happily residing in Huddleston, VA. He received a BFA at Colorado State University and an MFA at the University of South Carolina and currently teaches drawing courses at Radford University.
