Lovers and Other Strangers: A Spring Cabaret with Wynn Creasy & C.W. Markham III

Saturday, May 16, 2026 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The art of the solo cabaret was a trademark in the many small rooms in NY and Chicago and other large cities during the 30s though the early 80’s. Dying out as the little speakeasies in hotels and lodges were torn down and replaced by slick ballrooms and bars for the single crowd,  and the need for more space.

Consisting only of a lone singer and a piano with a player, it is a subtle art compared to the big flashy productions of Broadway. With the audience right in the singer’s face, there is no need for grand gestures and exaggerated facial expressions. Instead is the lift of a shoulder, the sly wink, the story told straight-forward and plain. Conversation with the audience to bring them in closer.
