The Bremen Town Musicians-Opera on the James
Saturday, March 4, 2023 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EST)
Description
Join us for this delightful opera for kids and families. An adaptation of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale, it features familiar melodies by Offenbach, Rossini, Donizetti, and Verdi. The story is fun and entertaining, weaving together themes of diversity, tolerance, and the value of cooperation with others.
The donkey, General Boom, seeks to form a band of farm animals for the town of Bremen. It does not take long for them to discover that they must consider each other's feelings before they can make music. But can these four very different animals come together before the pirates steal their instruments?
This story of individuals brought together by fate is very much in the tradition of well-known "journey stories" like The Wizard of Oz, and the Toy Story movies. Journey Stories are about characters that are very different from each other. They travel together, often reluctantly, but then successfully overcome challenges that they would have been unable to overcome alone. As the group moves from one challenge to another, the travelers come to appreciate the importance of putting their differences aside and working together. Opera on the James is proud to provide youth and families the chance to experience the visceral thrill of the live performing arts, up close and personal!
This performance features a quartet of young professional artists who love to share the joy of live music and theatre through opera.
This performance is being provided complimentary. Advance registration is not required, but appreciated.
