2nd Friday Exhibit Reception Featuring Delmus Phelps & Dennis Caldwell

Join us on Friday, December 8, from 5-7 pm for the artist receptiong for Dennis Caldwell, the 2023 Suzie Viemeister Emerging Artist Residency recipient, and Lynchburg artist Delmus Phelps. Dennis will talk about his exhibit, Dynamic, at 6pm in the Terrace Gallery and at 6:30, in the Sara Braaten Gallery Delmus with discuss his work in Realism…It Matters.
Dennis Caldwell is the 3rd recipient of the Emerging Artist residency program made possibly by the Viemeister family as a tribute to the late Suzie Viemeister who was a supporter of the arts, and in particular local artists. Caldwell works in oil and charcoal and states, “My goal as an artist is to push impressionism and realism as far as I can take it. I want viewers to understand what they're looking at but also understand the essence of each subject.”
Delmus Phelps, an established Lynchburg oil artist and recipient of Best in Show in Bower Center’s 2022 Annual National Juried Exhibition is noted for his realism, especially depicting large-scale detailed floral works. Regarding his work, Phelps says, “I feel my work has a great importance … it forces us to stop and take a look at the beauty that surrounds us everywhere.”
The reception is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served!
