Join us on Friday, January 13, 5-7pm for a reception in the Sara Braaten Gallery at Bower Center for the Arts for photographer Meagan Skinner, who will talk about her work and this exhibit at 6pm. She was the Best in Show recipient in Bower Center’s 2019 Annual National Juried Exhibition and her exhibit, Adventuring, that features thirty-eight photographs, will continue through January 28. 

Of her work, she says, “From rotting logs and old train cars to cloudy seascapes and crumbling churches, I find beauty and joy in places some may overlook. Each of my photographs is a single glimpse into an adventure, a blink of a memory, paused in time. 

I love anything to do with light, from sunlight sparking off water, filtering through clouds or especially leaves, to the twinkling of stars or city lights from a distance on a clear night, I am drawn to the colors, and the cheerful transformation of objects illuminated. Like ravens to shiny objects, there are moments and sights I cannot help but pick up with my camera and take home. I hope that you, too, see the beauty in these moments before you, and that it helps you notice those moments for yourself in your own adventures.
