RATTLESNAKE: A One-Man Play
Saturday, February 25, 2023 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (EST)
Bower Center for the Arts is excited to welcome John Hardy back to perform his show RATTLESNAKE!
Written by Hardy, the virtuoso tour-de-force tells the devastating story of a West-Texas man who goes to great lengths to achieve fatherhood. Hardy plays 16 different roles, taking the audience from Texas to Paris and back over the course of 30 years.
“It’s a pleasure to perform this play because audiences have no idea what the play will be like,” said Hardy. “It’s unique to have a play that is unlike anything out there, and yet is so easily enjoyed by both veteran theater-goers and those new to the theater.”
Rattlesnake follows the main character, Sherman, in all stages of his life, and introduces the audience to an array of characters, including a French woman and an 85-year-old African American—all played by Hardy. Unlike most one-act plays, Hardy’s characters interact. “The result is a story of epic reach,” said Hardy. “This is the sort of opportunity an actor relishes but never gets the chance to do. It is a thrill.
One hour and forty five minutes including intermission.
“John Hardy’s RATTLESNAKE… a groundbreaking creation…Brilliant writing in the most original script I have seen in ages…; the first classic of the new century… you have never seen anything like it…; Sixteen characters - a small cavalcade- come to life before our eyes, distinctly and convincingly…; a marvelous use of language, great wit, rich characterization…; a remarkable performance.” -Arts Magazine
