The Shape of Feeling (Adult Therapeutic Clay-Making)

The Shape of Feeling (Adult Therapeutic Clay-Making)

Monday, February 2, 2026 (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Guided Healing Through the Creative Process Art-making is a powerful and effective path to healing, self-expression, and insight that does not require any prior artistic talent or experience. Its central principle is that the process of creating art—not the final product—is the source of therapeutic benefit. Core Benefits of Therapeutic Clay-Making Engaging in art creation offers several profound advantages for well-being:

  • Self-Expression & Communication: Art provides a non-verbal outlet for communicating thoughts and emotions that may be too difficult or complex to express with words.
  • Stress Reduction: The meditative and relaxing nature of creative activity helps reduce stress and promotes a general sense of well-being.
  • Insight & Understanding: Reflecting on one’s own artwork helps individuals gain deeper insight into their emotions and thought patterns, leading to greater self-understanding and acceptance.
  • Empowerment: The act of creating gives individuals a sense of control over their emotions and environment, which is especially valuable for those who have experienced trauma or powerlessness.
  • Improving Physical Abilities: Clay forming can help improve dexterity, coordination, strength, and range of motion in the upper body.

In this Therapeutic Art-Making class, the facilitator plays a crucial role in ensuring that participants can confidently and appropriately engage their creative expression. The focus is on providing guidance, support, and a safe space for you to explore and make sense of your experiences through the art medium, promoting personal growth and emotional well-being.

Both wheel throwing and hand-building, including sculptural work, is made available to participants.
